Ive seen HUGE hangout rooms completely fall apart because wave after wave of douche bags would come in and harass people while quite crassly trying to find something to stick their dick in. TLDR - Chat rooms arent hard, just look into IRC(dead simple chat protocol, been around for decades). But keeping a chat room from becoming toxic is VERY hard.
