The friendship icon in the new layout profiles are small, quite similar in appearance, and all the same colors: light grey. They're stylish and sleek, but you really have to look at them to tell them apart.

Color coding them would make them much more convenient. Something like this for example:
1) grey if not your friend and you can send an invite
2) green if the user is already your friend
3) blue if you have already have a pending invite
4) red if they can't/won't allow requests at the moment

The colors wouldn't have to be bold or anything distracting, just subtly different to blend in the new layout and allow for easy identification.
