First of all, I am white. I grew up in the incredibly racist segregated American South in the 1950s and 1960s. The society did its best to brainwash me. It did not work. Tom Carter seems to have fallen into the trap of believing, as do so many racists and bigots, that their prejudices are in the vast majority, probably because he only seeks out friends that are also racists and bigots.
